Introduction to Go Digital

Since the introduction of digital TV in the UK in 1998, over 30% of homes converted at least their main TV set to digital reception of terrestrial, satellite or cable transmissions. Many homes have yet to convert and nearly all homes still receive the old, analogue, transmissions on some sets. If the analogue TV signals are phased out, all reception will convert to Digital. To help plan the conversion from analogue to Digital, the Go Digital project is contributing valuable information to the government organisations, broadcasters and equipment suppliers concerned.

The project was set up with agreement and finacial contributions from 18 organisations and companies. Click this link for details and links to members web sites. The research is strategically managed by representatives from each member and the day to day management is coordinated for the members by the Independent Television Commission (ITC).

Endeva (the installations company of Boxclever) is coordinating installations, operating a support office to assist the trial householders and record findings relating to the technical installations.

Ipsos is the market research Company appointed to record the trial households' comments and experience on the switch to digital TV.

The aim of the Go Digital trial is to address the practical issues associated with households converting to all digital (satellite, terrestrial and cable) free-to-view services and to monitor viewers attitudes and responses to the use of digital television equipment and services in the home.
